The Dakota Building NYC: History and other facts

New York. It is a historic building and was created in year 1880 by Henry J. Hardenber. It was architected in Renaissanc architecture style. The Dakota was added to NRHP on April 26, 1972 and was designated as NHL in December 1976.

Construction york of The Dakota was started on October 25, 1880 and was completed on October 27, 1884. It is very famous and historic building and is situated along northwest corner of 72nd Street and Central Park West in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City.

The Dakota building is known as the location of the murder of John Lennon who was a musician. Its design is a treat to watch and is well known architectural design in whole New York.

According to ancient stories, it got its name as Dakota Building because during its establishment, the Upper West Side of Manhattan was sparsely inhabited and at that time that part was considered as remote as the Dakota Territory and as a result it got its name as Dakota Building. There are several other stories too. It got famous and its appropriate image in year 1976 when it was declared as National Historic Landmark.

Flatiron building is exactly situated on 175 Fifth Avenue New York City. It is a historic building and was completed on 1902. It consists of 22 floors with top floor height of 285 ft. It was architected by D.H. Burnham & Co. Daniel Burnham Frederick Dinkelbe. It was added to NRHP in November 1979.

Flatiron building is among top attractions of Manhattan situated in New York City. When it was completed then it was one of the tallest buildings in the city and was famous as the only skyscraper north of 14th Street.

One very interesting thing about this building is that it is situated on a triangular island-block which gives it a very unique look. Name of this building i.e. Flatiron was derived from its relation to a cast-iron clothes iron. This building is very famous and its surrounding area is known as Flatiron District after its signature building. This building is so famous that it now has became an icon of New York City. Flatiron building got its real fame in 1966 when it was designated as a New York City landmark. By seeing importance and popularity of this building, it was included in National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and in 1989 it was designated as National Historic Landmark.

Rockefeller is covers an area of 22 acres and is combination of 19 commercial buildings. It is situated along 48th to 51st street in New York City. This beautiful building is manufactured at the center of Midtown Manhattan. It got its main fame in 1987 when it was declared as National Historic Landmark.

Rockefeller has great history and in starting stage, John D. Rockefeller planned to build an opera house on this site but later he changed his mind because of changing patterns of market and build this great building thereafter. He started developing this site from 1930. According to him, during that stage he was left with only 2 options and he was lucky that he choose the right one. He said that it was tough decision to built something and finance it alone but later it proved to be the best one for him. In 1930, this project cost him about $250,000,000 which is very huge amount and he spent this much money for just construction of some new buildings. This building is among largest private building project ever and was built in Arc Deco style. Its construction started on May 17 1930 and got completed in 1939. Mr. john R. Todd was the chief builder and Mr. Raymond Hood was the principal architect for this amazing project.

Grand Central Terminal was built in year 1903 by Reed and St Warren and was built in Beaux-Arts architect style. It got NRHP Reference#: 75001206 83001726 and was added to NRHP on January 17. It is situated in New York City and is spreaded along 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Please note that, Grand Central Terminal is world's biggest train station by number of platforms. Along with platforms, it too have 67 tracks. All of them are divided in two levels, upper level and lower level. One interesting thing to note is that, this railway station have more than 100 tracks along platforms. After opening of Long Island Rail Road's new station in 2016, this station will have total of 75 tracks and 48 platforms. Whole of the platform is spreaded across an area of 48 acres. Till 1991, this terminal was used by Amtrak but later in 1991 they moved their trains Pennsylvania Station. This station is officially know as "Grand Central Terminal" since 1913, but till now lot of people have continued to call it as "Grand Central Station." It got its name as "Grand Central Station" from a post office which is situated very near to this terminal. According to Travel + Leisure magazine, Grand Central Terminal is world's number six most visited tourist attraction and about 21,600,000 visitors visits Grand Central Terminal annually.
