Since its opening, this bridge has crossed all stages of popularity and has become an icon of New York City. By seeing its importance and popularity, this bridge was included in National Historic Landmark in year 1964. It also got National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1972 which is enough for showing its design characteristics.
